Children's Ward / Children's Assessment Unit
We have a dedicated Children's Ward and Children's Assessment Unit.
Children's Assessment Unit
The Children’s Assessment Unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides an assessment and triage service for children and young people.
We take referrals for children and young people with acute medical and surgical conditions from our Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC), GPs, health visitors, midwives and paediatric community nurses.
The unit also provides a surgical pre-assessment service for children and young people undergoing elective (planned) surgery.
Children's Ward
The Children's Ward is an inpatient paediatric service for children and young people up to 16 years old and for young people in transition to adult services up to 18 years old.
The ward has 12 inpatient beds.
Our ward is a mixed specialty medical and surgical ward. Admissions to the Children's Ward are usually via the Children's Assessment Unit.
