Staff networks

We believe in empowering all our colleagues to have a voice, so we can continue to enhance their experience, enable our colleagues to thrive, bring their whole selves to work and feel part of team.

Training and education

We are always wanting to improve our colleagues' skills and knowledge of the job and build colleagues' confidence in their abilities. This will improve performance and make people work more efficiently and effectively.

Freedom to Speak Up

Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) is about encouraging a positive culture where people feel they can speak up and their voices will be heard, and their suggestions acted upon. Speaking up is about anything that gets in the way of providing good care.

Staff networks

We embrace the diversity within our workforce and make everyone feel welcome.

We have three staff networks:

  • BAME staff network

The networks are all staff-led.

Health and wellbeing

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

We are pleased to work with Vivup to provide a 24/7 helpline service, which includes counselling, self-help information and fast-track access to therapy where needed.

Our colleagues can call Vivup at any time of day to access this service.

Once you contact Vivup, you they are provided with fast-track access to assessment and the appropriate support pathway:

  • 24 hour helpline available 365 days of the year
  • Confidential, high quality, in house specialists
  • Self help resources and signposting

Our colleagues also have access to Vivup’s online platform which has self-help materials, podcasts and webinars on topics such as anxiety, burnout and men’s health.

Menopause

We’ve launched a dedicated menopause helpline to support all colleagues in their experience of the menopause. The helpline will be available 24/7 and partners are also able to call it.

The service offers:

  • Menopause assessment with a specialist menopause counsellor
  • Referral to in house GP/nurse prescriber
  • Dedicated menopause resources
  • Referral to menopause support groups

We also have numerous training sessions on the menopause, whether you want to find out more about a specific topic or you’d like to become one of our menopause champions.

We have a menopause policy, detailing the support that can be offered.

As a Trust, we are accredited as a menopause friendly employer. This standard shows that we are committed and actively demonstrating support for the menopause in our organisation.

Financial wellbeing

To support your financial wellbeing, we have the Wagestream app which comes with multiple features, including:

  • Choose to receive up to 40% of your monthly salary early
  • Budgeting tools
  • Savings pot, money can go straight into the in-app savings account on payday
  • A personalised coach to offer 1-1 support
  • Money saving tools including discounts, a benefits checker tool

Physiotherapy service

We have a fast-track colleague physiotherapy service. If you are having any pain you can refer yourself into the service.

You are usually seen within a couple of weeks and a treatment or management plan is created for you

Complementary therapy massages

Our colleagues can access complementary therapy massages at work:

  • Lower arm and hand
  • Lower leg and foot
  • Head and scalp

A massage may help reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension and improve sleep quality.

Cardiovascular disease checks

We offer cardiovascular checks to our colleagues.

The check involves calculating a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) through assessing the seven main risk factors; smoking status, body mass index (BMI), alcohol consumption, physical activity level, cholesterol level, blood pressure, and blood sugar level. You are then supported to reduce your risk of CVD through behaviour change interventions, such as weight management and to access clinical treatment where needed, for example drug treatment to reduce high blood pressure.

Fitness and pool sessions

We offer fitness sessions and hydrotherapy pool sessions.

The fitness sessions are made up of 18 different exercises which you can tailor to your desired difficulty level. They are self-led, however, a member of staff is available to help or demonstrate any of the exercises if you need.

The hydrotherapy pool sessions are an opportunity for you to:

  • Relax
  • Swim
  • Participate in exercise with or without floats and fitness equipment

Rotherham United partnership

We work in partnership with Rotherham United FC to deliver fitness and activity sessions for colleagues. These are tailored to activities colleagues have told us they’d like to see.

Wellbeing trolley

Our wellbeing trolleys regularly visit departments across the Trust bringing free drinks, snacks and healthy breakfast pots! A chance for you to take a moment for yourself during your shift.

Defence Employer Recognition Scheme & Armed Forces Covenant

We recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to the Trust. As well as being Veteran Aware accredited, we also hold a Bronze Award for the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. This means we support the Armed Forces' community as an employer and our values align with the Armed Forces Covenant

If you are interested in transitioning from a role in the armed forces into a career in healthcare, please take a look at the wealth of information available on the Step Into Health website.
