Community Diagnostic Centre now fully operational at BreathingSpace
We are thrilled to announce the official opening of a new CT scanner at Breathing Space, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the scanning capacity across the Rotherham.
The relocation of the scanner, which previously sat outside the Moorgate wing of Rotherham Hospital, is part of the government’s £2.3 million programme to boost MRI and CT scanning capacity within the NHS.
The move completes the second phase of the development of the Trust’s Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Breathing Space. Combined with the Sleep and Respiratory Physiology services, the CDC is set to dramatically improve patient access, ease logistical challenges, and reduce pressure on hospital resources by decentralising diagnostic services.
How this will impact patients:
- Improved access: The new facility will offer more efficient diagnostic services, ensuring patients across Rotherham have quicker access to vital scans.
- Reduced hospital pressure: By moving diagnostic services away from the hospital, we can better allocate hospital resources to critical clinical areas, enhancing overall service delivery.
- Enhanced patient experience: The new location features convenient parking, a comfortable waiting area, and streamlined processes, making visits easier and more pleasant for patients.
Michael Wright, Managing Director of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, praised the new facility: “It’s so impressive. The quality of the facilities is first class and will be excellent for patients.
“The new facility represents a significant step forward in our service delivery. The modern facility not only improves patient access but also creates a supportive environment for our staff, ultimately benefiting the entire community.”
A patient who was among the first to benefit from the new CT scanner shared their experience: “I found the experience of having a scan very easy. Everything was clearly explained to me. I was told to lay down and relax; and they did the rest.
“I think you've got a wonderful place here. It's completely different from the one at the hospital. You can move from one room to another without walking across a car park. It's fantastic."
