A local car dealership has loaned The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust a 4x4 vehicle for the fourteenth year in a row to use over the winter period.

Sytner Land Rover, based in Sheffield, recently handed over the keys to the Land Rover Discovery to the Trust’s Estates team. It will be used to ensure that the team can get to the hospital and keep the grounds free from snow and ice during periods of bad weather to make sure patients can still access services.

The Land Rover will also be on hand to transport key members of staff into work so that they can still treat patients in the event that there are no other forms of transport available.

Linda Martin, Interim Director of Estates and Facilities at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Sytner for once again providing us with a Land Rover. The cold, snowy and icy weather last week was a sharp reminder of the potential impact bad weather can have on people trying to reach our sites. The Land Rover is a valuable asset that helps us keep our essential services running and that our hospital grounds are safe for patients, visitors and colleagues.

“Having the Land Rover available means we have a reliable, alternative way of getting key colleagues into work if no other methods of transport are available. Over past years, it has helped us on numerous occasions and has ensured we have been able to maintain our staffing to provide the people of Rotherham with the healthcare services they need in treacherous conditions.”

Mike Tyson, Managing Director of Sytner, said: “We are delighted and proud to be in a position to help the community of South Yorkshire once again over this winter period should it be required.”

Throughout winter, local people are being reminded to choose the right care for their needs. NHS 111 can provide medical advice and direct people to the most appropriate service for their needs. Pharmacists are also able to provide advice and support for many common illnesses and injuries. People should only attend the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at Rotherham Hospital in an emergency.
