Our recruitment process

Our recruitment process

Our recruitment processes have been designed to ensure we recruit the right person into the right role, whilst maintaining fair, open and transparent procedures.

Our values are vital to success and form an integral part of every role we recruit for.

Irrespective of whether we are recruiting for a clinical role, support role, a patient facing role, admin role or otherwise, the ultimate aim remains the same; putting people first.

We want to ensure we attract, recruit and retain talented, hardworking and kind people to deliver compassionate care to our patients, and those who enable them to do that.

Applicant support

When applying for a job, you need to make sure your application form gives you the best possible chance of being shortlisted.

Here are some of our helpful and handy tips:

  • Read the job description. Is this a job you like the sound of?
  • Read the person specification. Do you meet all the essential criteria for the role
  • Applying - applications need to be made electronically, CVs are not accepted
  • Ensure you give all relevant experience, skills and knowledge
  • Use the supporting information section of the application form. This is your opportunity to show you meet the criteria - give examples
  • Don't assume. We can only shortlist based on the information you provide
  • Your application is anonymous. The appointing manager will not be able to see any of the monitoring information you provide
  • Before you submit your application, read it thoroughly. Check, check and check again
  • Make note of the closing date to be sure you do not miss out

The NHS Jobs online application form will take you through several sections of your application. Try to complete all parts of the application form. If some sections of the form do not apply to you, enter N/A (not applicable) in the spaces provided.

Recruitment process

Submitting your application

Once you have completed the online application form, please remember to proofread it and check that you have answered each section as fully as possible.

Submit your application and keep a copy to help you prepare if we ask you to come for an interview.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Shortlisting

Your application will be shortlisted by the recruiting manager who will assess your application against the job's person specification.

Once shortlisting has been completed you will receive notification from NHS Jobs. If you are unsuccessful you can contact the recruiting manager for feedback.

Interview

If you are shortlisted you will receive an email from NHS Jobs to your email account you have applied on.

You will need to log into your NHS Jobs account and find the date and time offered.

Pre-employment checks

If you’re successful at the interview, you will be contacted by email by your allocated recruitment administrator. Here, they will issue you with a conditional offer email.

You will then need to log onto NHS Jobs and accept the role.

At this stage, your job offer is conditional and subject to completion of satisfactory pre-employment checks. The checks we carry out will be dependent on the type of job you’re going into, but can include the following:

  1. Identification
  2. Professional registration and/or qualifications
  3. Criminal record and DBS checks
  4. Occupational Health checks (health clearance)
  5. References (covering that last 3 years of your employment record)
  6. Right to Work checks

As part of your conditional offer process you will be sent a Trust ID link. This is where you will be able to upload your right to work document.

Once your pre-employment checks are complete, the recruitment officer will audit your file and send you a start date email where you will be asked to arrange your start date with the recruiting manager.

We advise that you don’t give notice to your current employer until your start date has been confirmed.

Unconditional stage

Once a start date has been arranged, the recruitment officer will complete your hire and send you your unconditional offer letter, IT details and contract, by email.

If you require to collect a uniform you will be able to do this once you have your unconditional offer letter.
