Friends' twelfth night of fundraising
The family and friends of a man who tragically died following a short battle with lung cancer raised the roof at the annual club night held in his memory.
Two of the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s most dedicated supporters, Vanessa Lockwood and Pauline Hirst, organised the event at Treeton Miners Welfare Club in January, raising £1,425.
The fundraiser, which included a raffle, bingo and music from band Echo Beach, was held in honour of Pauline’s husband Neil who died in 2014 aged 56 at Rotherham Hospital.
Vanessa, of Treeton, Rotherham, said: “We absolutely love fundraising for the charity because it helps to keep Neil’s memory alive. Our recent club night was brilliant once again and it was wonderful to see the club packed with our family, friends and everyone from the village. Everyone comes together to support our fundraising, whether it’s buying tickets for the event, donating raffle prizes or tickets and playing bingo.
“Thank you to everyone who have stuck with us for more than a decade, it really does mean so much to us. We’re really proud to have raised so much again for a charity which is close to our hearts.”
The pair have raised more than £13,000 in 12 years for the charity.

“Their fundraising has enabled us to do so much more for the patients we care for and their families.”
