The Rotherham Foundation Trust’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is holding a special celebration to mark World Prematurity Day on November 17.
The Special Care Baby Unit will be decorated purple and former patients, their parents, family and friends are invited to attend an afternoon of fun at Big Apple Play City in Rotherham between 3:30PM and 5:30PM.
Special Care Baby Unit Nurse Team Leader June Adams helps to organise the day: ‘Since we started to celebrate World Prematurity Day, each year our number of attendees has increased and we have had to source bigger homes for our celebration: we expect this year will be our biggest turn out yet! Thank you to Big Apple Play City for kindly agreeing to host this year’s event.
We are passionate about celebrating our babies and their families amazing journeys. It’s good to get to see them all again and find out how they are all getting on. It’s important we spend World Prematurity Day doing this because the day is a great chance for us to raise awareness about premature birth and what this means for both a baby and their families. It’s an opportunity too for us to talk candidly about the physically and emotionally challenging experiences faced by babies and their families with us on the Special Care Baby Unit. World Prematurity Day is recognised with the colour purple, so we will be decorating our Special Care Baby Unit this colour on the day. A small group of us will decorate Big Apple Play City too and spend the afternoon with our babies and their families.
It is a wonderful day that we look forward to every year!’
There will be a gift for each baby attending the day provided by Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity.
