Upcoming industrial action for junior doctors and consultants
Across the country, Junior Doctors are due to hold industrial action from 7am on Thursday 13 July until 7am on Tuesday 18 July. This will be followed by a 48 hour period of industrial action taken by Consultants from 7am on Thursday 20 July.
Junior Doctors are qualified doctors in clinical training. This ranges from newly qualified doctors to those with many years’ experience. Consultants are senior doctors that have completed full medical training in a specialised area of medicine.
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is urging anyone who needs emergency medical care to still come forward during the period of industrial action.
Plans are in place to ensure patients continue to receive safe and effective care, however, some non-urgent appointments and procedures may need to be postponed. The Trust will contact those whose appointments are impacted. If not contacted, patients should attend as normal.
In order to help the Trust manage demand, the public are asked to use emergency services appropriately. If emergency medical care is not needed, please consider alternative services to the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, such as NHS 111, GPs and local pharmacists.
Dr Jo Beahan, Medical Director at the Trust, said: “We are working to put plans in place to maintain safe and effective care for patients, however, during this upcoming period of industrial action, there may be longer waits in the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre.
“Patients whose appointments have to be rearranged will be contacted directly. If we do not contact you, please attend your appointment as planned.
“Our services will remain open for those that need our help and anyone who needs urgent medical attention should attend our Urgent and Emergency Care Centre.
