Biochemistry
The Blood Sciences department incorporates the Haematology, Immunology and Chemical Pathology laboratories. It provides a comprehensive routine and emergency out of hours diagnostic Blood Sciences service.
The Biochemistry department analyses blood and other body fluids to determine the homeostasis of the numerous metabolic processes of the body. Due to the large number of samples analysed daily, much of the analysis is automated enabling the small team of Biomedical Scientists to perform many thousands of tests per hour for patients from both within the hospital and from the local community.

The Consultant Biochemists are available via the hospital switchboard 01709 820000 – ask for the Consultant Biochemist on-call. The Biochemists are available 24/7 to offer clinical advice and interpretation of results.
