You have been prescribed an epicondylitis brace for your specific needs by your Orthotist. The brace is used for golfers or tennis elbow treatment.
These are often referred to as ‘clasps’ or ‘epi clasps’.
Epicondylitis braces are used to:
- reduce pressure on the elbow joint and support your arm
- help relieve pain to minimise the effects of muscle overuse
- help relieve symptoms of inflammation and reduce strain on the tendons around the elbow
How do epicondylitis braces work?
An epicondylitis clasp compresses the muscle just below your elbow, which brings relief to the tendons around the elbow and reduces pain.
How do I put on my epicondylitis brace?
- Undo the velcro strap
- Position the open clasp onto the widest part of your forearm two finger widths below the elbow crease.
- Place the larger of the two pads on the side that is painful
- The clasp should then be fastened firmly using the elastic strap when the forearm muscle is tensed.
- Be careful not to pull the strap too tight. The aim is firm and comfortable pressure to offer support.
When should I wear my epicondylitis brace?
Your Orthotist will advise you when to wear your brace. In most cases you will be instructed to wear it in the day when you are using your hand and arm.
It should not be worn at night.
How do I look after my epicondylitis brace?
You will need to look after your brace. Plastic sections can be cleaned with a damp cloth and foam linings can be hand washed in warm water. Please do not attempt to adapt or fix the brace yourself and as they have been prescribed for you they should not be used by anyone else.
