Festive fun raises £1,458 for dementia patients at charity’s Christmas Fair

Last month, Rotherham Hospital’s entrance came alive with festive spirit as the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity hosted its annual Christmas Fair. The heart-warming event brought together eleven local stallholders offering everything from handcrafted gifts to delicious baked treats.

Special guests added to the day’s excitement, including toddlers from Busy Bees Nursery who sang Christmas carols for the public, as well as Gulliver’s Valley’s beloved Gully Mouse, the charity’s mascot Dr Ted, Santa Claus and Miller Bear.

Adding a sporting sparkle to the day, players from Rotherham United Football Club visited the fair. After meeting members of the public, signing autographs and posing for photos, the players took on a special mission to spread Christmas cheer by delivering presents to youngsters staying on the hospital’s Children’s Ward.

Thanks to the incredible support of the local community, the fair raised an incredible £1,458.18, which will go towards supporting the charity’s Dementia Appeal. The appeal aims to transform the experience for patients living with dementia at Rotherham Hospital and in the community.

Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising, said: “We’re overwhelmed by the community’s generosity at this year’s Christmas Fair. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support our cause and we’d like to thank everyone who attended.

“Our Christmas Fair is an annual event which unites hospital staff, residents, local businesses and patients. We were so pleased to welcome local businesses this year including Staniforth’s, Jam Artworks, Cocoa Drop and many more. The professional traders sold some lovely artwork, candles, chocolate, hand-made crafts and cards which added an extra flair and festive spirit.

“Most importantly, every penny raised will make a huge difference in supporting patients with dementia and their families at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.”

Rachael added: “Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Fair but our festive fundraising isn’t over yet! We hope to inspire our community to support our Dementia Appeal this Christmas by taking part in our Christmas Jumper Day, enter our Winter Raffle, or dedicate a memory to a loved one on our Tree of Memories.

“Your support this festive season makes such a huge difference in your community.”
